The Green Room 001: Eco-Nation

THE GREEN ROOM 001: ECO-NATION

LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa, in association with The Green Party of Aotearoa/New Zealand, are pleased to present The Green Room 001: Eco-Nation – a CD that reflects upon the state of New Zealand now. An era of creative evolution has seen a fresh sound emerge from Aotearoa. A sound focused on education, whanau and fun.

Aotearoa is a unique place on this planet. We have our own special blend of technology, cultures and traditions bound together within one of the most inspiring geographical landscapes in the world. The work of our artists reflects these elements and the unique energy that binds them together.

The Green Room 001 is a meeting of minds, bringing together the original music of thirteen likeminded artists, the fresh, forward-thinking design work of Native Design, The Green Party's vision for a better future and LOOP's own desires to celebrate New Zealand music and take our creative culture worldwide.

Musically, we've brought together a selection of artists laying new roots for New Zealand music – dub, reggae and soul music delivered from the heart and carrying a unique attachment to our land of Aotearoa. From multi-platinum selling superstars (Che Fu, Salmonella Dub) to leading names in underground sounds (Fat Freddy's Drop, Pitch Black, The Nomad) and a few fresh-faced newcomers (Skanky, Aleon, Lee Tui), these artists are actively making music which draws inspiration from their immediate surrounds.

The Green Room 001 is supported by New Zealand's Green Party, who encourage all New Zealanders to look closely at our country and our options for the future. This compilation carries the theme of embracing an Eco-Nation, – caring for quality of life, thinking beyond tomorrow and acting towards a sustainable future for us all in Aotearoa. Government, citizens and business must all work together to achieve this vision for a better future. In the words of Green Party MP Nandor Tanczos, "Politics is about more than just how you vote, it is about how you live".

LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa's new compilation series The Green Room has developed out of Mikee Tucker of LOOP's syndicated radio show of the same name. The weekly Green Room radio show features 100% New Zealand music, exposing and promoting this country's fresh musical talent across the nation and to the rest of the world. The Green Room is broadcast in Aotearoa on Radio Active in Wellington, RDU in Christchurch, Radio 1 in Dunedin and Studio 96.8 in Queenstown, and is then re-broadcast worldwide on leading internet audio site www.groovetech.com.

Greens keeping it real for New Zealand music

The Green Party in partnership with Wellington-based LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa and Native Design are to mark the nationwide New Zealand Music Month of May with the release of a compilation CD of cutting edge contemporary New Zealand music.

The CD Ð The GreenRoom 001: Eco-Nation Ð was produced by LOOP Recordings Aot(ear)oa and sponsored by the Green Party. The CD goes on sale in music stores across the country from Tuesday 21st May.

Its full of phat beats that celebrate what it means to live in Aotearoa and what it means to be a human being, said Green MP Nandor Tanczos.

We have some of the finest musicians in the world and we live in an awesome and unique country. This disc is about celebrating what we have, at the same time as recognising what we risk losing.

Green support for this project is our way of communicating our vision for the future of New Zealand as an Eco-Nation as well as supporting and promoting New Zealand music in a practical way.

The disc features tracks from TrinityRoots, Che Fu, Salmonella Dub, Pitch Black, 50Hz, The Nomad and others.

Nandor said the CD spoke for itself in terms of Green support for the arts and cultural sector.

The Green vision for an Eco-Nation is explained on the CDs artwork and on the disc s last track which features spoken word by Nandor.

It s about living in balance. It s about Aotearoa as an Eco-Nation. Social justice, ecological wisdom, true democracy, non-violence: These things must be the basis of how we live if we want to survive, said Nandor.

The Greens are about a different type of politics. It s about positivity.

Politics is about more than just how you vote, it is about how you live.
