The weather – what’s in store for Christmas
“The weather – what’s in store for Christmas and beyond”
Aucklanders heading for the beach this
Christmas may be out of luck as climate predictions for
early summer suggest unsettled weather conditions are
likely.
So says Dr Jim Salinger, Auckland regional co-ordinator for NIWA’s National Climate Centre for Monitoring and Prediction.
Dr Salinger and Georgina Daw will present a seminar highlighting NIWA’s latest climate predictions for this season and the next at the Auckland Regional Council on December 14.
Topics include how El Nino/La Nina will affect wind, rainfall, air temperature and soil moisture levels this summer.
They will also outline what natural climate variability, the greenhouse effect and global warming may have in store for the Auckland region during the 21st Century.
“In the long-term, surface mean temperatures are warming due to the greenhouse effect. Changing climate will impact upon our agricultural and horticultural sectors and has the potential to affect Auckland’s energy, transport, and tourism industries,” says Dr Salinger.
The seminar is open to the public and provides a golden opportunity for everyone affected by the weather to attain the latest climate predictions.
The
seminar will be held at the Auckland Regional Council, 21
Pitt St Auckland and starts at 3:30 pm.
