Four face charges after Greenpeace protest

Four people are facing charges as a result of the Greenpeace GE protest at Inghams Chickens in Hamilton today.

Two men dressed in chicken suits who roosted on top of two large steel tripods at the entrance to the factory’s gates have been charged with obstructing a public way.

Two other men who hung from abseiling ropes down the side of a large grain silo on factory property have been charged with being unlawfully on a property.

The four were not arrested at the protest, but were given summons notices to appear in court on a date to be set. The four protestors came down from their perches of their own accord just after 1pm. They had taken up their positions at 9am.

Police say the protest was peaceful and uneventful.
