Aucklanders support draft brothel and commercial sex premises bylaw
Auckland residents are overwhelmingly supportive of Auckland City’s draft bylaw to control the location, signage and licensing of brothels and the location and signage of commercial sex premises.
Eighty-three per cent of submissions on the bylaw are supportive, with over half of the 952 submissions received requesting that Auckland City introduce tighter controls.
Only 17 per cent of the submitters wanted the bylaw amended to make it less restrictive.
Deputy mayor David Hay says he is pleased with the public’s response to this important issue. He says the council will do its best to ensure all submitters’ views are taken into consideration when finalising the bylaw.
Written submissions on the draft bylaw closed on 6 November 2003. The oral hearings will be heard on 24 and 25 November 2003.
The final decisions on the draft bylaw will be made at a full council meeting on 18 December 2003.
