Singapore Armed Forces Artillery On Wellington Roads
Six 155mm Self Propelled Artillery Guns of the Singaporean Armed Forces will be transported along State Highway One between Wellington and Waiouru on Wednesday, 28 Jan 04 after being unloaded at the Port of Wellington.
475 Soldiers from Singapore arrive at Waiouru Military Camp on 3 February for Exercise Thunder Warrior, which runs until 13 February. This year the Singapore Armed Forces will be firing six 155mm Self Propelled Artillery Guns, along with twelve 155mm Howitzers.
Thunder Warrior is an annual exercise providing the Singapore Armed Forces with artillery live firing training and serves to strengthen the relationship between Singapore and New Zealand.
34 members of the Royal New Zealand Artillery (16 Field Regiment of Linton Camp) will provide training and logistical support throughout the exercise and will work alongside their Singaporean counterparts.
Exercise Thunder Warrior has been conducted by the Singapore Armed Forces at the Waiouru Army Training Group training area since 1997.
The Singaporean Minister of Defence, Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean, and Singapore’s Chief of Army, Major General Desmond Kuek, are expected to visit the exercise.
