Don McGlashan: performing live on Auckland Zoo’s back lawn
Kiwi music icon Don McGlashan will be taking fans on a journey of his whole career and then some, when he plays at Auckland Zoo on Friday evening 6 February (Waitangi Day).
The former member of Blam Blam Blam, The Front Lawn and the Muttonbirds will be joined by two other talents – bassist SJD and Russian accordionist Tatiana Lanchtchikova for this, the sixth and final ASB Bank ZooMusic gig at Auckland Zoo.
Along with some great old favourites from the man who’s been called “one of our most intelligent, poetic songwriters”, Mr McGlashan will also be treating concertgoers to some new material from his upcoming first solo album – due for release later this year.
And the venue suits Mr McGlashan very well. “I’ve visited zoos a lot when I’ve been living and working overseas, and seen how important they are to a city, so it’ll be great to play at Auckland Zoo,” says Mr McGlashan.
Support act for Mr McGlashan is fellow musician and original Split Enz and ex-Citizen Band member Geoff Chunn. The pair did gigs together back in the Blam Blam Blam and Citizen Band days.
“We’re absolutely rapt to have such talents as Don and Geoff performing for our final ASB Bank ZooMusic concert for this year, which will be hosted by comedian Ewen Gilmour. It’s going to be wild, and what a great way for everyone to spend Waitangi Day evening,” says Jackie Sanders, Auckland Zoo Events Co-ordinator.
This ASB Bank ZooMusic concert begins at 5.30pm with ‘The Believers’, followed by Chunn, and McGlashan.
Normal Zoo admission prices apply – $13 adults, $10 students, and $7 for children 4 years and over. Friends of the Zoo members receive a 20 per cent discount on entry after 4.15pm.
Darwin’s café,
which fully caters for both adults and children, will be
open along with the zoo’s Wild Zone Gift Shop.
