Alleged counterfeiters face Court

Three African men travelling on Liberian and South African passports were arrested in an Auckland City hotel this afternoon and will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow charged with attempting to obtain by deception and possession of counterfeit notes.

Officer in charge of Auckland City Police Company Fraud Squad, Detective Sergeant Ian Tuke, said the men were allegedly found in possession of what looked like millions of US dollar counterfeit notes while negotiating a business transaction with a local businessman, the complainant in this matter.

"We believe these men have been in New Zealand for about a month and we’d like to hear from anyone who may have had dealings, of any nature, with them," Mr Tuke said.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Sergeant Ian Tuke on 09 302 6970.
