Green Candidate Displays Creative Billboards

Cr Celia Wade-Brown, a sitting Councillor in the Southern Ward of Wellington City Council, has livened up the billboard competition with her first three unique designs.

The first one is a take-off of billboards and has mini-billboards appearing against a background of hills.

The second is a washing line, complete with real socks, and is a message about intelligent energy use, promoting wind energy and the T-shirts carry their own messages. "We use a washing line rather than a dryer - it saves us money and reduces energy demand. We need to harness Wellington's wind for non-polluting energy.

The third uses a bike found on the beach to promote sustainable transport in a vivid and eye catching way. My sons enjoyed spray-painting the bike orange! says the mother-of-two. Celia often cycles to meetings in the city and local suburbs, "Cyclists need improved conditions - not grates that eat their wheels and fast narrow lanes."

"Many billboards are a boring blot on the landscape. At least mine raise a smile, make people think and, I hope, exemplify 'Creative Wellington' ".

The Green Councillor painted the green backgrounds herself and added the items with help from her family. More are planned for private sites over the next weeks.
