Manukau pledges support to Tsunami appeals

Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis is hoping that Manukau residents are just as generous to the various Tsunami appeals as they were when Niue was devastated by Cyclone Heta this time last year.

Sir Barry has extended his deepest sympathy to those communities here who have lost relatives and friends in what is considered to be as one of the world's greatest natural disasters.

"I am saddened to hear of the loss of life, injuries and the devastation caused by the tsunami. The global scale of this disaster has without doubt touched many of our communities living here in one way or another," says Sir Barry.

Manukau City Council is offering support and counselling to any staff who have been personally affected.

People wanting to make cash donations to any of the Tsunami Appeals can contact:
