Kiwi Shower Habits Exposed In Survey

It’s official – North Islanders do it more often!

A recent survey commissioned by Beiersdorf New Zealand to mark the launch of its NIVEA Shower Gel range, reveals that when it comes to Kiwi showering habits, North Islanders do it more often, and are more likely to do it with someone else.

“Our survey showed that shower frequency declines the further south of Auckland you go,” says Beiersdorf New Zealand’s Andrea Cheung.

While Aucklanders shower on average 8.2 times a week and Wellingtonians average 7.4, those in Christchurch step into the shower 7.2 times, while Dunedinites average 6.9 showers a week.

And when it comes to sharing a shower with someone else, 37% of North Island survey respondents confirmed they showered with a partner, compared to 28% of South Islanders.

Like to linger in the shower? Three quarters of us spend between three and ten minutes on this daily ritual, although time-pressed Hamiltonians went against this trend with a significant 8% of respondents spending less than two minutes on their ablutions.

Singing in the shower also proved more popular amongst North Islanders than South Islanders, with 48% and 39% respectively saying they use the occasion to exercise their tonsils. However, they weren’t revealing what tune they were singing.

Respondents to the NIVEA Shower Gel survey were also asked who they would most like to share a shower with, from a list that included celebrities such as Lucy Lawless, Rachel Hunter, Judy Bailey, Russell Crowe and Dean Barker.

“However sixty two per cent of people in relationships chose their partner over the celebrities, so Kiwis overall seem pretty romantic,” says Cheung.

For the record, the most popular celebrity females amongst New Zealand men were Mandy Smith (7%), Nikki Watson (6%) and Rachel Hunter (5%), with Kate Hawkesby a favourite amongst males 30-49.

Politicians only rated as those with whom New Zealanders would least like to share a shower. At 28%, Helen Clark topped the list of females Kiwi males did not want to shower with, followed by Jenny Shipley at 22%.

For Kiwi women, the selection from the male line up showed Paul Holmes as being least likely to be invited into the shower stall at 29%, with Bill English and Winston Peters runners up at 13% and 8% respectively.

Meanwhile Beiersdorf is hoping Kiwis will be singing the praises of its new NIVEA Shower Gel range when it starts a promotional campaign this Sunday.
