MG XPOWER SV ON DISPLAY IN NEW ZEALAND

The MG XPower SV has arrived in New Zealand for a brief period. It will be on display at Auckland dealers, Newmarket European and Roverland, and will be a major attraction at the Big Boys Toys exhibition from November 14-16.

MG Rover Group's world renowned design director, Peter Stevens, whose previous design accomplishments have included the McLaren F1, and design work with Lamborghini, TWR and Lotus, is responsible for the design and styling of the two-seater super car.

Commenting on the project, Stevens said: “I’ve been working with a small team of experts and enthusiasts to ensure we produce an MG car that will deliver the ultimate in driving exhilaration. The MG XPower SV is a car with appeal to passionate sports car drivers who will relish its extraordinary racetrack performance characteristics.

The exterior of the car owes much to the demands of aerodynamics and airflow management required for competition cars. These elements give the car a highly aggressive and overtly sporting stance clearly stating its potential for high performance.

So extreme is the performance that all models will be marketed under the MG Sport & Racing XPower brand. As part of the project’s weight reduction objectives, following the evolution and development of the original X80 Concept, all body panels are made from lightweight carbon fibre. inbuilt front and rear diffusers manage the aerodynamic airflow for high-speed stability.

Targeted at the premier driving enthusiast, the new MG XPower SV will become the icon of the MG brand with opportunity for both road and track exploitation.

“MG is all about having fun, extending the boundaries of excitement and generating visual entertainment for a wider audience. The MG XPower SV delivers this objective in a forceful manner, demonstrating the immense potential for MG”, says designer Peter Stevens.

General Manager for MG Rover New Zealand, Andrew Bayliss said “It is testament to the importance the factory places on our market that we are able to secure an MG XPower SV for display purposes in New Zealand”.

Bayliss said “The MG XPower SV is available to special order only and we already have two cars on order. As yet pricing and specification for our market hasn’t been finalised, however the range starts with a 326bhp 4.6-litre all aluminium quad-cam V8 engine, but customers can also specify the engine from the record breaking 360 km/h Bonneville Salt Flats MGZT-T, rated at 765bhp and beyond if required”.

The MG XPower SV is a part of a unique range of products, which will ultimately be available with some of the most extreme levels of road performance ever offered.
