New Law Protects Car Buyers From Monday
The Motor Vehicle Sales Act will come into force on Monday 15 December 2003.
MTA chief executive Stephen Matthews and Consumer Affairs Minister Judith Tizard will launch the new law at 2pm on Monday at Newmarket European, 381-383 Broadway, Auckland.
The Motor Trade Association (MTA) supports the Motor Vehicle Sales Act and its aim of preventing “back yard” trading.
Along with covering existing vehicle dealers, anyone buying from car fairs or auction houses will be protected by the new law – which is designed to give buyers a fair deal.
Under the old law all car dealers needed a special license, however this is no longer the case. MTA merged with the Motor Vehicle Dealers Institute in July and represents more than 6,000 businesses within the motor industry.
