Small rise in January vehicle registrations
Vehicle registrations for January were up 3.4 percent on last year, according to figures released today by the Land Transport Safety Authority.
There were 23,217 first-time registrations of new and used imported vehicles this January, compared with 22,443 in January 2003.
Total first-time car registrations rose by just 0.6 percent, from 17,725 in January 2003 to 17,829 last month. New car registrations were nearly unchanged (5,713 last month compared to 5,711 in January 2003) while used import registrations rose just 0.8 percent from 12,014 to 12,116.
The market share leader for new car registrations last month was Holden with 17.7 percent, ahead of Toyota with 16.1 percent and Ford with 11.6 percent.
The three most popular new car models for the month were the Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon and Toyota Corolla.
Truck registrations for January were up 13.0 percent, from 2,180 in January 2003 to 2,464 this year. Trailer registrations were up 17.2 percent, from 1,390 to 1,629 while motorcycle registrations (over 60cc) rose 1.4 percent, from 511 to 518. Tractor registrations fell slightly from 183 to 176, while bus registrations dropped from 103 to 99.
