Kiwibank Expands Network

13 May 2004
KIWIBANK EXPANDS NETWORK

Kiwibank reaches the milestone of having 300 branches across the country on Monday 17 May when a new branch is opened in Mangere East, Manukau City.

The opening brings the number of branches in greater Auckland to nearly 90.

Kiwibank Chief Executive Sam Knowles said the bank was committed to making banking accessible to people.

"The Mangere East opening is another example of Kiwibank coming back to a community abandoned by the other banks. It has been nearly 10 years since a main bank has provided service to this area."

Kiwibank operates in nearly 50 towns and city suburbs where there are no other banks.

Mr Knowles said that in the last few weeks Kiwibank branches have been opened in Auckland Hospital, Warkworth, Papatoetoe, Oxford, Botany and Mt Maunganui South.

"We are about to open this month in Mangere East, Pukekohe and Drury. More openings are also scheduled over the next few months.

"We are keeping our promise of more branches, longer trading hours and our better core banking services."

The Mangere East PostShop is owned and operated by Arvind and Shobna Dharamsi. The shop is located in the 3 Guys Shopping Centre. The shop, which is also a variety shop and Lotto outlet, has been operating since 1992.

Kiwibank presently has 240,000 customers. It has been judged "best bank" for the last two years by Consumer Magazine.
