Emirates Expands Again In Christchurch

Emirates is to increase the frequency of its Christchurch-Melbourne-Dubai service for the second time since starting Christchurch flights at the beginning of July.

From December 5, the Dubai-based international airline's service will move from six times a week to daily.

When Emirates started flying to Christchurch it operated three times a week, shifting up to six times a week on August 17.

The flights are operated by Emirates' leading-edge Airbus A340-500 aircraft.

Richard Vaughan, Emirates' Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for East Asia and Australia, said: "The Christchurch route has been building up nicely for us and we are delighted that we can have a full daily operation in time for New Zealand's busy summer holiday season. We are sure the many South Islanders and visitors who have welcomed the addition of a South Island gateway to our network will appreciate this latest enhancement to our service."

The A340-500 carries 12 First Class, 42 Business and 204 Economy passengers, as well as 14 tonnes of cargo.

Mr Vaughan added: "South Island exporters will undoubtedly also be pleased to see an additional frequency."

With the extra Christchurch service added from December, Emirates will have 28 New Zealand flights a week, in each direction. Auckland currently has three services a day to Australia, Dubai and beyond.
