Ipods And Brat Dolls Top Christmas Wish List To Santa

More than 64,000 Christmas requests sent to Telecom’s Santaline

Brat dolls, iPods, mobile phones, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles are among the most requested presents this Christmas, according to the hundreds of emails flooding in to Santa.

More than 500 emails with greetings and Christmas requests have been sent to santa@xtramsn.co.nz in the first week of Telecom’s Santaline campaign this year, with hundreds more expected in the lead up to Christmas. A resounding 63,000 calls and hundreds more text messages were sent to Santa ’s home and mobile phone.

A spokesperson for Mr Claus said that the year-on-year increase in requests for technology-based toys such as mobile phones and entertainment consoles indicates how tech-savvy children are becoming.

Robosapiens, Barbie dolls, Duelmaster cards and PlayStation game SingStar are also among the top ten most requested Christmas gifts, as are perennial favourites such as bikes, puppies and chocolate.

Text messaging is also proving to be another popular way of contacting Santa this year, particularly among older children or adults.

“iPods, Ferraris, surfboards and even houses are being requested, which proves that Santa is still very much alive in the minds of adults, eager to keep the spirit of Christmas alive,” said Victoria Crone, Head of Consumer Marketing for Telecom.

Santa can be reached by texting 9627 from a text-capable Telecom mobile. Texts cost 20 cents and a donation from each text will be made to this year’s charity, CCS, an organisation supporting people with disabilities.

However, Telecom’s telephone hotline remains the most popular way for children to keep in touch with the North Pole, with a record 63,000 calls made so far on Telecom’s free Santa Line, 0800 22 22 22.

Launched in 1993, Telecom’s SantaLine is a way for children to call, email and text their Christmas wishes to Santa.
