ING contributes USD 1 million to regions hit by tsunami
ING Group today announced that it will contribute USD 1 million to a relief fund for those affected by the tsunami in South and South-East Asia . ING started an initiative to allow its businesses and its employees worldwide to participate in a global fund raising effort. An ING Tsunami Support Account has been established and all international staff donations to this account will be used for disaster relief in the regions affected by the crisis.
The ING Group Executive Board has committed the first USD 1,000,000 to the ING Tsunami Support Account, on behalf of all ING’s businesses. This includes a special contribution of USD 100,000 of the ING Insurance Asia/Pacific regional office in Hong Kong, since their region was directly hit.
“I hope this contribution of ING and the additional donations of its employees can be of help to the relief efforts in the countries that have been hit so tragically,” said Michel Tilmant, CEO of ING Group.
The fund will primarily serve two purposes: it will aim to provide assistance where it is most urgently needed, and as the scale of the tragedy and the need for reconstruction in the regions becomes clear, the fund will also commit to supporting longer-term projects. This will closely be coordinated through ING’s local offices and in cooperation with international aid organizations. ING’s offices have not been damaged and all ING employees working in the regions have been accounted for.
