SIZE
DOES MATTER
The hunt is on for New Zealand’s own David
and Goliath of the canine world.
In a competition being launched today by Eukanuba Dog Foods, the biggest and smallest dogs from 15 regions will compete against each other for the chance to win the national title.
New Zealand’s David and Goliath of the canine world will win a photographic session in their home with award winning animal photographer Rachael Hale. Rachael’s work is featured throughout the country in the Animals as Art series of calendars and cards.
The regional winners will each receive a month’s supply of Eukanuba large or small breed dog formula.
The Eukanuba Size Does Matter competition is designed to raise awareness of the importance of feeding dogs a diet appropriate to their size.
Auckland veterinarian Dr Mark Clasper says it’s important for dog owners to realise that large dogs have vastly different nutritional requirements to smaller breeds.
As an example,
large dogs are more prone to developing joint problems such
as arthritis as they get older. Natural supplements such as
glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate in their diet have been
shown to help maintain healthy joints. These supplements are
also found in human remedies.

“Like you and I, our canine companions need to adjust their diet depending on their lifestyle. For example, small dogs tend to be very energetic, so they need extra protein, fat and calories to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
Entrants must send a photo of their dog, with its weight written on the back, to Eukanuba Size Does Matter Competition, PO Box 37 116, Parnell, Auckland by November 30. All dogs entered must be aged 12 months or older.
