The World’s Toughest Multisport Event Is On - In New Zealand!
The world’s greatest, gutsiest and gruelling adventure race will take place in New Zealand over 28 days at the end of this year.
Mizone Endurazone begins in Bluff on November 19 and around 100 multisport local and international athletes will kayak, run, raft and ride the length of the country to finish at Cape Reinga on December 18.
For the likes of ‘professional’ competitors Steve Gurney and Keith Murray Mizone Endurazone represents a tough but welcome competition and they’ll be in to win. For others new to the sport or who have entered for a once in a lifetime challenge it represents their personal Mount Everest.
More than 300 officials, organisers, caterers and volunteers will accompany the athletes on their incredible journey which will take them across the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers and the Taramakau Valley in the south to Mt Ruapehu, Waiheke Island and 90 Mile Beach in the north.
By the end of Mizone Endurazone the athletes will have climbed and descended 24,000 vertical metres, covered 2787 kilometres and consumed 190,000 calories.
Originally dubbed the Wild Places Challenge the race is being organised by Greg Carlyon and is sponsored by Mizone Sportswater. Mizone Sportswater, manufactured by Frucor Beverages Ltd is a lightly fruit flavoured sportswater with added vitamins (B and C group), great for rehydration before, during and after any exercise.
“This race has been on the drawing board for more than two years and we are absolutely delighted to have Mizone on board and to be able to announce it’s all go,” says Mr Carlyon, the race director.
“We have some of the great names of multisport taking part in a backdrop of stunning terrain and countryside – all the ingredients to capture the formula that allows this to be called the greatest adventure race in the world.”
Mizone Endurazone - which will attract media from all over the world and put New Zealand firmly on the multisport map - is best described as the Coast to Coast on steroids according to Frucor Beverage’s General Manager Marketing Evangelia Henderson.
“It is designed to be the absolute ultimate multisport event and leverages New Zealand’s developing image of the adventure and multisport capital of the world.”
When athletes kayak across the infamous Cook Strait on December 1 they will be accompanied by MPs Mark Burton and Trevor Mallard.
Entries to Mizone Endurazone will be accepted until a month before the race.
