CLIFF RICHARD TO PERFORM TWO SHOWS IN NEW ZEALAND

Sat 22 Feb 03 NAPIER – The Mission TICKETS ON SALE MONDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2002

Almost five years on from his triumphant 40th Anniversary concert tour of New Zealand & Australia, Britain's all-time greatest hit maker, Sir Cliff Richard OBE, will return down under for Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, as part of his phenomenally successful Wanted On Tour international spectacular.

That Cliff's career would astonish the hardened and set records in a new millennium was probably beyond prediction when he burst onto the music scene in 1958 with the frantic Move It. His raw teenage energy came as a breath of fresh air, establishing him as Europe's first authentic rock 'n' roll star. But a staggering quarter of a billion record sales later, Cliff continues to enchant his fans with quality new music and commanding live performances. This year a study by Vivazzi has found that Cliff is second only to Elvis as Britain's favourite pop idol of all time. He outranked current superstars such as Robbie Williams, as well as Madonna, Elton John, The Beatles, Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson.

When Cliff left Australasia in 1998 after a hugely successful two-month tour with Olivia Newton John, he recorded the album Real As I Wanna Be in Austria and concluded the year with a four-week celebratory season of concerts in London's Royal Albert Hall. All tickets were sold within 48 hours of the box office opening. Completing the record-breaking run of 32 RAH concerts in March, Cliff was presented with a special award to mark this extraordinary achievement.

In 2000, to mark his 60th year, Sir Cliff took a well-deserved sabbatical, returning in 2001 with renewed vigor and commitment, recording the Wanted album and appearing alongside performers such as Mariah Carey, Mick Jagger and Lenny Kravitz at a German gala event designed to raise awareness and money for the fight against AIDS.

At 62 Sir Cliff seems to have at his disposal vitality, capacity and enthusiasm for the task, which would shame most performers half his age. But, as he has pointed out, "You have to work hard for success. You can be lucky once but you have to work hard for continued success. I take what is good in the past and work hard for the future. Rock’n’Roll is bigger than everybody and anyone. That is why you have to build for the future. If you don't then all you have is the past."
