Get Your Snowboards Ready For Chancery Ln Auck

Get Your Snowboards Ready For Chancery Ln Auck

Who needs a mountain or the forecast of snow when you can bring the mountain to the CBD with trucks, handrails, snow and downhill terrain?

Red Bull Slide will be held in Chancery Lane, Auckland on August 16th. Competing in the event will be local and international snowboarders and skiers.

The tricky art of rail sliding is a progressive new form of freestyle ski and snowboarding that needs no mountains and little snow. Crushed ice will be used to make a man-made snow ramp and competitors will get to choose from two different rails, a rectangle tube steel kinked flat bar, and a plywood curved ledge with steel top, to show off their jibbing skills.

Unlike traditional competitions, the Red Bull Slide will not separate skiers from snowboarders, with competitors being rewarded for style, technical skill and length of ride regardless of the code.

Last year Red Bull held the event in Beach St, Queenstown where thousands of spectators crammed the streets to witness several of New Zealand’s best skiers and snowboarders ride the rails. Over 60 competitors lined up for their turn on the towering drop-in platform and snow-covered ramp that shot towards a 10 metre long and 2metre high rail, the scale and shape of which has never before been seen in competition. The final was a battle between Tim Jackways and Roland Morely Brown with the winner’s title going to Tim after a switch 180 nose press revert that got the crowd roaring.

This year’s event will be a unique opportunity for spectators to experience the thrill of sliding in an urban setting.
