Thrills And Spills… Crusty Demons Crazy
Antics
Motocross insanity took over Auckland's Viaduct Harbour today when American FMX Crusty Demon legend "Mad" Mike Jones jumped on to his bike and thrilled the crowds with high-flying antics.
Due to high winds and impending rain clouds the promoters were reluctant to go ahead with the original demonstration which was to involve Jones, the Godfather of FMX landing on his bike from a hovering helicopter.
"The actual show was cancelled due to extreme winds which make it extremely dangerous for the riders," said Rush Sports & Events International Managing Director Michael Porra.
However "Mad" Mike defied the odds and took off hitting the ramp at full speed demonstrating the crazy antics synonymous with his name. Joined by NZ FMX riders Nick Franklin and Luke Price, the three riders showed the crowd just what they could expect at the Boost Mobile Crusty Demons Global Assault Tour on March 20th at Westerns Springs Stadium.
Following the phenomenal success of the first Australian Tour last year where over 110,000 tickets were sold, the Crusty Demons have been touring the world as part of their Crusty Demons Global Assault Tour. With a production budget of almost NZ$1 million this will be the largest extreme sports show ever to come to New Zealand with up to 30,000 fans expected to pack the Western Springs venue. The show will feature the world's best FMX riders plus freaks, stunts, pyrotechnics and top New Zealand bands including Blindspott in a full four band live concert.
"This is a first for the sport in New Zealand" said Rush Sports & Events International Managing Director Michael Porra. "It takes freestyle motocross to a new level because it turns sport into a theatrical production that touches all the senses and emotions. The show has the technical production of a large rock musical."
The Crusty Demon Riders are legends of the sport and include Brian Deegan, Seth Enslow, Ronnie Faisst and Mad Mike Jones. Some of the world's hottest up-and-coming riders are also now in the Crusty Team. Dayne Kinnaird, Luke Urek and ‘Twitch' of Hollywood blockbuster Triple X fame as well as New Zealand's own Nick Franklin will be joining the Crusty Demon Riders for the NZ Tour in March.
Close to $100,000 worth of tickets have already been sold on an internet pre-sale promotion. Tickets for the Boost Mobile Crusty Demons Global Assault Tour go on sale today through Ticketek.
