FRINGE '04: Hydrangea Monolgues
Hydrangea Monolgues
Ginny, a Hydrangea, cruelly murdered for her addiction to pink-iced biscuits, and Petey, a slowly disintegrating cat, play pivotal roles in ''The Hydrangea Monologues'', by young Wellington actor/writer Sam Shore. Fleur and Ray live downstairs from Jude. Jude is a woman with a rapidly diminishing grasp on reality. Well, reality as Fleur and Ray and Fleur’s friends Steph and Philiip know it. Fleur doesnt like Ray. Stephanie doesnt like Ray. Phillip SAYS he doesnt like Ray. They all fear Jude. Jude loathes them all.
Jude has a pet cat, nemed Petey. Petey replaced her former ‘long-term companion’ Ginny. One fateful day Jude, Fleur, Ray, Steph, Phillip, Petey, a frying pan, a bottle of bleach and far too much recreational medication all come together. If only Ray hadn’t played the stereo so loudly!
“The Hydrangea Monologues” is Sam Shore’s first play. Sam came to Wellington to escape the blistering night-life of Levin and since graduating from drama school in 2001 has appeared in several stage plays and also got a part on cloud nines ‘the tribe’, as well as acting in a number of short films. Sam has also worked on ‘the lord of the rings’ since 1999. He has secured a number of T.V.C’s for national and international companys and can currently be seen on c4 on the ‘flow time’ adds for primo.
The Director of “The Hydrangea Monologues”, Stuart Curtis has been acting, directing and writing for what seems like a very long time. He has worked in, on and around countless productions in New Zealand, Australia and the U.K. before coming to Wellington three years ago. He even managed to write a particularly silly pantomime version of “Rumplestiltskin” that somehow managed to win an award for “Best Family Entertainment”. Stuart says that he is delighted to be working on “Hydrangea Monologues”, which he describes as “A lot of rather sinister fun” and says that he has been very fortunate with his cast who combine a good mix of youth, energy and experience.
Appearing in “The Hydrangea Monologues” are Hamish Brown as Phillip, Elizabeth Crummett as Fleur, Dayle Jones as Steph, Lorraine Ward as Jude, and David White as Ray.
