Benjamin Crellin @witsend

Bats theatre
24-28 Feb.
9:30pm

Benjamin’s new standup comedy show @witsend is just beginning its fringe odyssey

It looks like its 5-night season at Bats is to be the first of many festivals and marks the start of an epic journey to fringes far and wide.

At the time of writing this release Crellin is awaiting confirmation of his registration in 7 Canadian fringe festivals that run from June through to September.

He has already been accepted to the Edmonton fringe. If the other registrations are successful it will see Benjamin tour @witsend for 95 days doing more than 50 shows. In venues ranging from beautiful theatres to scout halls.

The Canadian fringe circuit is one of the largest in the world and has hosted other kiwi comedians such as Raybon Kan, Brendan Lovegrove and recent Perrier nominees Flight Of The Concords.

The show may also take part in the Melbourne fringe. Dates permitting.

This will be the first time Benjamin has taken a show overseas. He has now been performing comedy in New Zealand for eight years and feels the trip is long overdue.

Benjamin is not only a veteran of stand-up but also of Bats and the Wellington fringe.

He is a for time nominee of the Billy T James award, has been in seven series of pulp comedy and performs live all over the country.

At witsend is his sixth solo standup show, his fifth fringe show and the seventh production he has bought to Bats.

Bats is Benjamin’s favourite venue for performing standup comedy.
He first graced its boards with Ewen Gilmore in the highly successful fringe comedy; This is a standup comedy show. He returned with the equally well received; This is another standup comedy show before hosting the fringe award winning: The late show with Benjamin Crellin. This cabaret phenomena ran for all but five nights of the festival and as well as featuring comedy bands, giveaways and interviews it was free to everyone.

Benjamin is currently co writing a book called Way Of The Jafa, which is a humorous look at Auckland’s elitist attitude and culture. The publisher is Hodder Moa Beckett and the release date is yet to be confirmed.
