TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir Wins!
43RD International Choral Competition “C A Seghizzi” Gorizia, Italy, 6-8 July
TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir have had huge success and achievement at this prestigious international choral competition (part of the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing).
They gained highest marks in the following competitive categories:
• Category I
• Category II – 20th Century (1st equal with Cantemus, from Minsk, Belorussia)
• Category V – Traditional Maori repertoire
• Jury Prize
• Audience Prize
• Best Conductor at Competition – Dr Karen Grylls
• Best Programme of highest artistic interest
• Best Performance of Unpublished Work (Anna Griffiths, Youth Choir member, “Okarito”)
Karen and the choir are thrilled with their achievement, and now go on to prepare for their three concerts in Russia next week: two in St Petersburg and one in Moscow, before returning to New Zealand on Tuesday 21st July.

The TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir was established to promote choral singing of the highest standard among young New Zealanders, and members of the choir come from all corners of the country. In its 25-year existence it has achieved a remarkable number of awards and accolades, including the 'Grand Prix' in Slovakia, and the 'Choir of the World' award at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, both on its highly successful European tour in 1999.
