Forget Indianapolis, Suzuka and Le Man’s, the biggest racing event will take place on Sunday 13th February from 11am – 4pm, when the Auckland Domain comes alive with 80 teams racing their home-made trolleys
Over the last two months teams from around the country have spent the last two months designing and creating trolleys that are set to alight the course with originality and humour. Among the contestants there’ll be the pharaoh flyer, meals on wheels, flint mobile, a rocky horror picture show time warp, and the Empire State Bling Escape…..this really is the race where fast is good but outrageous is better!
The 700m course has been specially designed to test contestant’s stamina, speed and skills, singling out the Ferraris from the milk floats!
Each team will be judged on creativity, showmanship and speed. Whilst speed is good, it will be the showmanship points that will make or break any close calls.
Up for grabs is a Red Bull Formula 1 experience where the whole team heads to the Melbourne Grand Prix or $10,000 cash.
MCs for the event are comedian extraordinaire Radar and XSTV presenter Brooke Howard Smith. In the judges seat will be Mike Eady, Neil Holt aka DeeZaStar, Vanessa Quin (World Mountain Bike Champion 2004), and K Lee.
Also taking part in celebrity races is Amber Pebbles, Jo Cotton and Mark Ellis who will try to defy gravity and win $1000 for charity.
In line with the race day theme of Formula 1 motor-racing there will be for the first time ever a 2001 Red Bull Sauber Petronas F1 car on display. The car valued at over NZ$1m was Mika Salo’s actual race car from the 2001 season.
Don’t miss the only race where fast is good, outrageous is better!
