Independent Schools Of New Zealand Welcome NZQA Action At Cambridge High School
The Association of Heads of Independent Schools welcomes the decisive action taken by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority to shut down the infamous Achievement Recovery Room at Cambridge High School.
AHIS President Steve Robb said the manner in which credits for a National Certificate were assessed, and then attributed to students with little or no apparent professional teaching or learning programme, was undermining students' learning and giving them a false sense of achievement. It also had the potential to undermine the credibility of New Zealand's qualification system.
"We welcome the strong action taken by NZQA as it sends a very strong message, nationally and internationally, that New Zealand's qualifications system is robust and meaningful," said Mr Robb.
"NZQA will no doubt now be considering extending this type of audit throughout the country to ensure the new NCEA qualification has total and enduring credibility", said Mr. Robb.
