TEC to conduct COOL IT evaluation

TEC to conduct COOL IT evaluation

A lack of progress by CPIT in evaluating learner engagement in its COOL IT programme has resulted in a decision by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to appoint its own evaluator.

General Manager Ann Clark said CPIT’s Chief Executive John Scott has told the TEC that the researcher approached by CPIT had withdrawn, stalling the evaluation process that had been agreed to in August.

She said a decision would be made as soon as possible as to who would carry out the evaluation on the TEC’s behalf.

The evaluation is to assess the engagement of learners in the COOL IT programme last year, which has been subject to a previous TEC review.

The costs of the evaluation would be passed on to CPIT as it remains responsible for demonstrating that learner engagement took place.

Ann Clark said that in meantime, the TEC has decided to withhold payment from CPIT for 50 per cent of the group of 13,298 students who enrolled but did not go on-line until satisfactory evidence was available to show that these students engaged in learning. The sum involved for this group is $4,985,851.50 and it will be withheld from the February and March payments to CPIT.

Once the evaluation is completed, the TEC will consider what funding is due to CPIT for the COOL IT course.
