Thousands Already Gathered At S11 Protests
Heavy rain greeted S11 protestors against the World Economic Forum in Melbourne this morning, but it hasn’t dampened spirits, Green MP Nandor Tanczos said.
“Every one’s going hard, people are feeling good ... It’s totally going off,” Mr Tanczos said.
At 7am Melbourne time, Mr Tanczos said there were thousands of protesters already gathered around the forum venue, and said there were police blockades at most intersections. He understood a major over-bridge is being closed off, which he says could cause major traffic gridlock.
He said there had been a lot of speculation about how the economic leaders are going to get to the forum, with protesters circling the venue.
Mr Tanczos said it was hard to tell exactly what’s going on at this stage, but said things should become clearer later in the morning.
Mr Tanczos and fellow Green MP Sue Bradford are amongst the protesters, while Finance Minister Michael Cullen is due to attend the forum.
