US Election: Cannibalising Candidates

Here we are still in a dead heat for the election of the United States President. As we come closer and closer to the day when America will decide whether Gore or Bush will run the country the difference between the candidates continues to become less and less evident.

As both candidates rush for grudge votes, each seems to be adopting the others policy. Each candidate seems to be trying to be everything to everyone which is diluting the platform from which they sprang.

What are we as voters to do then? Do we accept the fact that the candidates will say anything just to get elected? Do we accept the idea that there is no difference between the candidates and they are in fact both just whores for the vote?

No. As each candidate degrades their own platform by adopting philosophy and policy from the other party, voting for either one becomes less and less of an option. What are we left with then? We are left with the only logical choice, voting for neither one.

These candidates have blurred the lines, if they ever existed, between the democratic and republican parties. The only candidates who have remained true to their platforms are the "fringe" parties. The libertarian party is still very much libertarian, the reform party is still very much the reform party. And as always, Ralph Nader is defiantly Ralph Nader.

The candidates from these parties are names that most of the world might not even recognise. But, it is these candidates who have remained true to the ideals and philosophies of their constituency.

We must decide between the increasingly fungible candidates from the two major parties and the candidates on the fringe who have remained true to their platform. I hope against hope that the American people will seek out alternative candidates and vote their ideals into reality.

I look forward to "surprise" results for independent candidates on election day. Even if one of these candidates doesn't win, and they won’t, it will send a message to Washington that we as voters demand that our candidates take a stance and stick to it. We deserve consistency from our leaders, end of story.
