“is there an executive summary?”

Yes.
See… below…
EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY:
WHY SCOOP WORKS FOR PR PROFESSIONALS
WHY
SCOOP IS WORTH PAYING FOR &
WHAT DO WE WANT YOU TO
DO
1. WHY SCOOP WORKS FOR PR
PROFESSIONALS
SCOOP PROVIDES FOR YOU AND YOUR CLIENTS
THE FOLLOWING SERVICES
– WHICH NORMALLY COST LARGE
AMOUNTS OF MONEY, FOR FREE:
- a large audience;
- a
uniquely valuable audience;
- a uniquely compliant and
open news media;
- a fair system of news exposure (a
level playing field);
- a test bed for your work;
- a
marketing tool;
- an intelligence service;
- a free
online archive of your work - free to the public;
- free,
direct and fast access to your stories from the
world's
biggest Internet search engines
2. WHY SCOOP IS WORTH PAYING FOR
Because Scoop is free to the public it is better at the tasks it performs for you.
Does it make sense not to pay for something that is extremely useful – and is saving you and your clients money and time – just because you don’t have to?
And if not having Scoop will cost you money. And if scoop is delivering you valuable services for free that others charge for, then maybe it makes sense to pay a little towards the support of Scoop voluntarily.
3. WHAT DO WE WANT YOU TO DO

Oh no,
Terrible news to hear. First City Voice and now Scoop. I wish I could say that the organisations I work for could afford to advertise with you. I'll have a think about ways in which we can help.
All the best,

Would be sad, wouldn't it?
Scoop has provided such excellent service since its inception. It has always been my first choice in the way of seeking important and interesting news 'straight from the horses mouth'. It would be more than a real shame if it failed to live on. If you guys need an extra volunteer count me in, there must be something I can do :)
cheers,
KB
new life
I have been a reader of yrs for the past year or so - and have to admit as one who hardly buys a paper (I tend to spend 30-90 mins a day running around the nwspapers here and overseas) I find yr service useful - realistically you are going to have to charge either for postings (ie press releases) or charge yr readers. Ads wll not work - people who read email a lot (as I have for over 10 years..) don't even see the ads - my eyes just pass over them - and if they are too invasive ( as some so yrs where that took over a page for 10-15 seconds) - I tend to just ship scoop and read elsewhere.. Sorry guess this isn't what you want to hear - but better you know.
Hwr how this email started out is I guess I would continue with yr service if it charged, say $5/month + GST - if it was compulsory. If as you say you have 5,000 punters would be enough to keep your chin above water (presuming at least 1/3 will disappear)?
Good luck

Update #5 Scoop Refuses To Say
Die!!!
Commiserations Dear Alistair What a pain! I
recommend your site to all and sundry, but if the beastly
Treasuryites and their ilk refuse to pay, it doesn't help. I
tried to click to vote but nothing happened, and I can't
seem to get to that page via the Web either. Any further
instructions? AE and onsent to various others who
should. A bit mean putting the herald in the non-award.
Their site works OK and at least they don't yet charge for
archives. PS RE: Scoop
Update #5 Scoop Refuses To Say
Die!!! Alastair Sorry to hear that Scoop has got a
case of the wobbles. I am a bit of a news junkie and enjoy
receiving various updates from Scoop during the day. It used
to amaze me how anyone made money off the net and I guess
that is all coming home to roost for many dotcoms now. As
much as I enjoy Scoop it is not a necessity for me so I
can't offer any dosh, although I did vote for you guys. Good
luck SM
