One of the loveliest things about Fruitvale is the architecture. This is a typical one-storey fancy brick shop facade from the 1930s.

And here is a popular restaurant sign, probably from the 50s. Fruitvale was originally settled by German orchardists and walnut growers, but by the 1920s had been subsumed by the City of Oakland.

It has a mix of ethnic groups - here, break dancing is still popular. A popular black station, KBLX, sponsored one of the five entertainment stages and has some shows catering especially for the Hispanic audience.
