New Employment Law Causes Chaos

New Employment Law Causes Chaos

Saturday 30th Sep 2000 Richard Prebble Media Release -- Other

A memo issued today by Parliamentary Services putting a two week stop on the employment of any new staff, either casual or permanent, in the parliamentary complex is an indication of how difficult employers are going to find the new law, said ACT Leader, Hon Richard Prebble.

ôAs Parliament passed the law it is reasonable to conclude that the parliamentary commission has had the best notice of all. They believe it will take two weeks to put the new ActÆs requirements in place, imagine how long the delays will be in the rest of the economy.

ôHundreds of people are employed in new jobs every week and if the Employment Relations Bill acts as a brake, the ripple effects are capable of making a significant dent in the growth of the economy,ö said Hon Richard Prebble.
