Ministers Launch Enrolment Campaign
Local Government Minister Sandra Lee and Acting Health Minister Tariana Turia sorted enrolment update packs in Parliament's mailroom yesterday.
The packs contain electoral enrolment details which can be sent back if they need alteration. The Ministers were launching the New Zealand Post Electoral Enrolment Centre's campaign to raise awareness of the upcoming local authority and district health board elections in October, and the need to be enrolled to vote.
Anyone who has not received a pack by August 5 is not on the electoral roll and will have to fill in an enrolment form. They are available from any Post Shop, public library or local authority office, or by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36-76-56).
Voting for the local authority and district health board selections is being done by postal ballot. Electors are due to receive voting papers after 21 September. Voting closes at noon on 13 October. If voters are 17 now but turn 18 during the postal ballot voting period, they can provisionally enrol now by filling out an enrolment form and will be automatically enrolled as soon as they turn 18. The official count and declaration of results are scheduled for 20 October.
