Allegations by wool growers that proxy votes have been mishandled by the Wool Board prior to today's AGM need urgent investigation, ACT Rural Affairs spokesman MP Owen Jennings said today.

Some growers claim proxy 'no confidence' votes that were posted several days before the cut-off date were not able to be exercised at the meeting. The Wool Board says they were not received.

"There may be a simple explanation for this situation. However, we need to get to the bottom of the issue, to clear up any doubts growers may have.

"An independent investigation should be carried out to remove any question of impropriety.

"The continuing saga of the Board acting at odds with its own growers has to stop. Should today's meeting fail to bring a satisfactory conclusion for growers, the Government needs to remove the Statutory backing for the Board and disperse reserve funds to growers immediately.
