ACT leader Richard Prebble says he's disappointed to see the National Party has moved away from a promise to scrap the Employment Relations Act.

"The ERA is a significant cost on small business. It has formed a bogus grievance industry, that National's policy won't stop," Mr Prebble said.

"ACT remains firmly of the view that the ERA should be scrapped and replaced by a simple freedom-to-contract law. The whole employment grievance industry - the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Court - should be abolished.

"ACT also notes how timid National's proposal is for a 90-day work trial period, particularly as it's only optional. In Tony Blair's Britain, workers can't bring an employment grievance unless they have been employed for a year," Mr Prebble said.
