No excuse for snap election

"Talk back today reflects the strong public sentiment that New Zealanders are not fooled by Helen Clark's cynical manipulation of them to call a snap election," says National Party Leader Bill English.

Mr English says it 's rubbish for Helen Clark to claim that she can't progress legislation through Parliament.

"People will not be impressed by the pure cynicism of Helen Clark who has spent months fuelling rumours about an early poll and then calls a snap election to stop all the speculation she has created."

Mr English says the Prime Minister's only motivation for going to the electorate early is to try and capitalise on poll ratings before they come crashing down.

"Helen Clark knows that decreasing commodity prices, increasing interest rates, escalating teacher and nurses strikes and health cuts later in the year will make it harder for her Government to win re-election.

"New Zealanders don't like be taken as fools and they will punish Helen Clark and Labour for her cynical move to call a snap election," Mr English said
