Anderton farewells Bunkle and Campbell

Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton paid tribute to the work of retiring MPs Phillida Bunkle and Kevin Campbell.

“When you work with people in politics you get to know them and appreciate their strengths, I’ll miss both MPs and I wish them well in whatever they do.

“Phillida Bunkle joined the Alliance at the time of the Wellington Central by-election in 1992.

“She came with impressive credentials from her tireless work in health issues, particularly women’s health. Phillida leaves office with a long list of achievements including initiating the Royal Commission into Genetic Engineering, the Gisborne health inquiry and an impressive reputation as a passionate advocate for vulnerable New Zealanders.

“Whatever Phillida does after her retirement form national policiics she will take those same strong qualities with her.

“Kevin Campbell is a committed advocate for vulnerable members of the community. He was outstanding as the Alliance candidate in the Taranaki King Country by-election. Kevin was a serious politician with a strong passion for social justice. His hard work at select committee level was highly valued,” said Jim Anderton.
