New Zealand First First
“New Zealand First Leader, Winston Peters, opens his Party’s 2002 election campaign in Tauranga at 12.15pm tomorrow (Monday).
“Being the first Party to launch enables us to get our message out to New Zealanders in undiluted form,” Mr. Peters said.
“Our message is simple. We are reminding people of what happened when either National or Labour last ruled alone and of the huge price we are still paying.
“We are also reminding people of who put a brake on the new right policies, who it was that took asset sales off the agenda and put an end to hospital closures. Who it was that introduced free health care for under sixes as a first step towards rebuilding our public health system. Who it was that built up police numbers and added $1.5b to our education investment, and who it was that set monetary policy guidelines that are the sole reason for the recent success of our exporters and the rural sector in particular.
“But it is time to look forward, and tomorrow
I will outline a three year plan that deals with the basics,
and that will arrest New Zealand’s descent into the third
world,” Mr. Peters
said.
