ACT Encouraged By Overseas Vote Campaign

Tuesday 18 Jun 2002

The ACT Party is continuing its campaign for the overseas vote which it predicts will be significant this election because of the introduction of e-voting.

"ACT's website has recorded double the normal number of hits during the past week, since we began an email campaign telling Kiwis overseas that they can download voting papers from our site," ACT leader Richard Prebble said.

"Voters around the world are logging on to www.act.org.nz (http://www.act.org.nz) . ACT believes that we can contact by email over 100,000 overseas New Zealanders. Up to 250,000 Kiwis living overseas are eligible to vote.

"ACT received 12.8 percent of the overseas vote last election and this is one reason why ACT always gets a higher vote on election day than in opinion polls."

Mr Prebble will be in Hong Kong today and tomorrow, and Ken Shirley will visit London from July 10 to 12 to campaign for the votes of New Zealanders living there who are eligible to vote.
