Transport Decisions Highlight Flawed Labour Policy
Friday 28 Jun 2002
Transfund decisions reflect Labour's lack of direction on transport, and may not even be legal given the Government's failure to introduce crucial legislation to parliament, ACT Transport Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.
"ACT believes petrol taxes should be used for road improvements, not put into the Consolidated Fund.
"ACT policy is to get infrastructure completed as soon as possible. Roads that are needed but aren't classified as a `high priority' should be funded by tolls.
"Labour has drifted for three years on transport issues. It's failure to even introduce crucial legislation to the House implementing the Transport Package shows it has no commitment to transport beyond getting cheap headlines," Mrs Webster said.
