Dalziel releases Labour’s ACC policy

ACC Minister Lianne Dalziel released Labour’s ACC policy today.

“Labour has delivered on its commitment to return the ACC scheme to its founding principles of community responsibility, comprehensive entitlement, complete rehabilitation, real compensation and administrative efficiency.

“The Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2001, reaffirms those principles and our vision for the next term is to ensure the long-term viability of a fair and sustainable scheme that emphasises injury prevention, while minimising the social, economic and personal impacts of injury.

“One of our priorities for the next term will be to establish a Ministerial Advisory Group on ACC, made up of independent community stakeholders. They will provide additional advice on policy to ensure we consider the impacts of policy change before they are implemented.

“We also want to complete the development of the New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy to ensure New Zealand is a safe place to live and work. People often use the adage the ‘accidents just happen’. I believe that most accidents are actually preventable and therefore, don’t ‘just happen’.

“Labour’s vision is to continue building a culture of safety and injury prevention, to reduce accidents in the home, the community, on the sports field, on our roads, and in the work place,” Lianne Dalziel said.
