The Solution Must Be To Scrap NCEA
The Solution Must Be To Scrap NCEA

ACT Leader Richard Prebble said that the Government's so-called `solution' to the teacher's strike won't address one of the major underlying causes of anger in our secondary schools - the politically-correct, bureaucratic NCEA.
"A survey this week shows that 83 percent of teachers do not believe the NCEA should continue. This anger is matched by pupils who are not allowed to know their marks, and by parents who are seeing a Government do an experiment with their children's education.
"One simple measure the Government could take to restore confidence in education - and go a long way to settling the teacher's strike - would be to cancel the NCEA. ACT has made enquiries, and it would be relatively easy to reinstate School Certificate this year.
"At least the pupils would then have something to show for this disastrous year," Mr Prebble said.
