Muriel Newman: ACT – the real alternative
ACT New Zealand – the real alternative
Weekly Column
by Dr Muriel Newman MP
“Muriel Newman is a parliamentarian worth her salary. She constantly takes up a cause that more circumspect, not to say politically correct, MPs would leave alone. She doggedly pursues the issue, often to the point of having a member’s bill presented to the House. That is sometimes sufficient to ensure the vastly superior legislative resources of the Government are directed to the subject.” Editorial, New Zealand Herald February 5, 2001
This Saturday you have two votes – an electorate vote for your local MP and a Party Vote for the party that best represents your concerns. If you have agreed with my weekly columns and with ACT’s vision for a free, safe and prosperous society then please support my re-election to parliament by giving ACT your party vote.
If re-elected, I will continue to fight for:
Stronger families to ensure that children have a better
future
Reform of our family law systems
including introducing Shared Parenting, opening up the
Family Court and making the Child Support Act fairer
Welfare reform giving security to those who
cannot work, while requiring those who are able-bodied to
move into work, independence and a better future
To get the fundamentals right to ensure jobs,
growth and a rising standard of living, through tax cuts for
every worker, lower taxes than Australia and a dramatic
reduction in red tape and compliance costs that hold back
small business.
A safer society through a zero
tolerance approach to policing, truth in sentencing and
prison reform so that prisons are more like work camps than
hotels.
One law for all, with time limits on
Treaty claims and the abolition of Maori seats.
World class education standards by replacing the
experimental NCEA with external exams, by introducing bulk
funding and paying good teachers more
Cutting
hospital waiting lists through a Patient Guarantee for
private treatment as well as fast-tracking the certification
of appropriately trained overseas doctors
Re-building our defense capability with an air-strike force
and a closer relationship with ANZUS
A better
deal for private property owners
Equality for
private tertiary training providers
