Glenfield Police Station Must Stay
Glenfield Police Station Must Stay
Thursday 29 Aug 2002
The Police Minister's plan to close the Glenfield Police Station is indefensible, ACT Northshore-based MP Deborah Coddington said today.
"The August 4 armed robbery of the Glenfield Tavern could have ended tragically if it were not for the prompt, effective response from the Glenfield Police Station.
"Today's shocking, rising crime statistics - particularly for Auckland - highlight the need for a viable police presence on the North Shore.
"Plans to close the police station run completely against the wishes of the local community and mayor.
"ACT New Zealand today gave the Police Minister the opportunity to defend his decision in Parliament. He failed to do so. It is now up to local MP Ann Hartley to explain why she is breaking her promise to keep the police station open.
"The Minister's bumbling in the House today proves this decision is indefensible. I will continue to fight with the community to keep the Glenfield Police Station open," Miss Coddington said.
