United's Inexperience Exposed
United Future's inexperience has been exposed in its first attempt at dealing with legislation in Parliament today where it stated it will vote for those on the domestic purposes beneficiaries to stay on the benefit and not be work-tested, says National Deputy Leader Roger Sowry.
"Labour and United are scrapping the part-time work test for DPB recipients when their youngest child is seven, and the full-time work test when their youngest child is 14. The Social Security (Working Towards Employment) Amendment Bill was opposed by United Future Leader Peter Dunne when it was introduced to Parliament.
"Legislating against work testing deprives young parents of the aspiration and opportunity to work and educate themselves so that they and their children can have a better shot at success. It is the wrong message to send young people that they can be given a cheque for life," Mr Sowry said.
