Bali explosion shows need for vigilance on
terrorism
Wayne Mapp - National Foreign Spokesperson
The terrible events in Bali overnight show the need for continued vigilance in the fight against terrorism, says National’s Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wayne Mapp.
“The attacks were an assault on the values of western civilisation, and brought back disturbing memories of September 11.
“The fact that this has happened so close to Australia and New Zealand is especially shocking. Once again New Zealanders have been the victims of terrorism, as was the case on September 11th last year.
“It is timely that Parliament debated the Terrorism Suppression Bill last week, which was supported by all parties except for the Greens. New Zealand must be committed to the worldwide efforts against terrorist movements.
“It’s clear that a lot more work is still required to make the world a safer place,” said Dr Mapp.
