Armstrong Case Should Go To Select Committee Says Peters

New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters has called for both Helen Clark and Ross Armstrong to appear before a Parliamentary select committee to answer questions about the letter Dr Armstrong wrote to companies about Government projects.

Mr Peters said the Prime Minister and her deputy appear set on making a scapegoat of Dr Armstrong when the most important issue is to find out what happened and whether there was any involvement by the Prime Minister or any Ministers or officials.

“If the services of Dr Armstrong are terminated, there will be a payout and a confidentiality clause as part of any agreement he reaches to leave his positions in TVNZ and NZ Post.

“This would mean that the people of New Zealand would be left entirely in the dark about what actually happened that led to this letter being sent.

The Finance and Expenditure select committee would be the proper place to investigate this matter out in the open rather than have a whitewash behind closed doors. If the Prime Minister did not know what Dr Armstrong was up to she should have no fears about answering some questions,” said Mr Peters.
