Govt indulges in expensive Kyoto propaganda campaign
New Zealanders will be on the receiving end of an expensive propaganda campaign using taxpayer money to sell recent Government initiatives this year, says National Party Agriculture Spokesperson David Carter.
“Late last year Government legislation to ratify the Kyoto Protocol was passed. And this year nearly $1 million will be spent in an attempt to justify the Government’s policies.
“It is an odds on beat that the majority of this money will go to Climate Defence Network, a group closely associated with the cheerleader for Kyoto Ratification and former senior adviser to Government Minister Pete Hodgson, Gary Taylor,” said Mr Carter.
“A group so closely associated with promoting the Kyoto Protocol and so closely associated with the Government cannot possibly educate New Zealanders on the Protocol without prejudice.
“Material produced by the Climate Defence Network will amount to no more than propaganda for their own agenda.
“This is an example of Government
cronyism in action and the New Zealand public should not be
exposed to such propaganda. The Government must be held to
account for this behaviour,” said Mr
Carter.
