National Adopts Act Manifesto, Confirms Role As Irrelevant Opposition Party

News today that National has adopted all of ACT's key policies and values should confirm to all that Bill English is determined to condemn his party to being as irrelevant a minor opposition party in Parliament as the ACT Party already is, says Progressive Coalition Deputy Leader Matt Robson.

"A policy platform to undermine families, deliver less security for individuals, divide Maori and non-Maori and confine the central government to utter irrelevance in the campaign to encourage economic development is the very same platform that has successfully delivered the ACT Party to Irrelevant Opposition Minor Party Status ever since 1996.

"It can be guaranteed to ensure National remains an irrelevant Opposition minor party after the 2005 elections as well," Matt Robson said.

In New Zealand politics there is one very popular and large party, called Labour, and six minor parties.

"In the MMP environment, the challenge for the six minor parties is to carve themselves a niche which makes them relevant to government policy-making.

"National has just failed the test two-and-a-half years ahead of the 2005 elections," Matt Robson added.
